2021 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Jen crownover

Jen is a native Texan and was raised in South Texas on a farm where her father is the 3rd generation farmer of the land. After high school, she attended Texas Lutheran University where she met and married her husband, Mike. She finished her studies in Business and Communications at the University of Houston in Clear Lake. They lived the first four years in Galveston where Mike attended Medical School, and then Syracuse, NY, for three years while he completed his residency.  Once complete, they high-tailed it back to the warm weather and wonderful town of New Braunfels where they have settled, raised their boys, worked hard, and enjoyed life ever since.

Serving the community has always been a priority for Jen and her family. Since moving to Comal County in 2006 the Crownovers have relished the opportunity to serve with numerous volunteer organizations and several important community initiatives. It was through these endeavors that Jen had the opportunity to meet with many of our public leaders and learn the inner-workings of our county government. As her interest grew so did her passion and, seeing an incredible opportunity to step up her game and serve Comal County and her wonderful communities in a larger capacity, she made the decision to run for the open seat of County Commissioner.  Jen and her family live in the Canyon Lake area. She and her husband (a physician and military veteran) just celebrated their 20th anniversary this year, and they are blessed with two sons. Reid is in college, and Boogie is a student at Canyon Lake High School, and is active in FFA and Scouts.

Paul vonheeder

Paul is a long-time, part-time resident (since his birth in 1957) and now a much happier full-time resident (since 2017). He loves his old rock home on the Guadalupe river, taking the dogs for walks, driving through the hills and exploring all the Hill Country has to offer. He  has such a love for this area and its precious resources that are Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe river. He passionately believe these lovely resources need our help in order to be preserved and enjoyed for ourselves and generations to come.

ANU DAY

Anu and her husband Fred have been members of Lake Canyon Yacht Club  for 15 years and moved to Canyon Lake full time upon retirement 7 years ago.  Anu is active in the community, having served as treasurer for her home owner's association, Port Captain for the Canyon Lake Yacht Club, and on the Board of Governors at the Yacht Club. She and her husband have forged numerous friendships with “dam walkers”  and believe the dam is a valuable resource for locals and visitors alike.  She plans to work with the Dam Community Alliance and the Corps to preserve this centerpiece of the region and allow all to enjoy it for years to come.

Brett Mazey

Brett has been a resident of Canyon Lake for the last four years. He is an active duty medical officer in the United States Air Force with 30 years of service. Brett is part of the Medical Service Corps (MSC), who are professional health care administrators and executives that lead and manage the military health care system. Brett’s specialty is medical readiness and is a certified Emergency Manager, and has supported many emergency responses operations to include Hurricane Maria and Harvey in 2017.

He met his wife Mariah while he stationed in Dayton Ohio completing his Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Mariah is also a career Airmen and has served 24 years as a medic and recently completed 14 months activation in response to COVID-19 for the state of Texas.

Brett has a passion for his community and a strong desire to serve and volunteers his serves whenever he gets a chance. He is a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and has served in a leadership position for the last 8 years, and is currently Scoutmaster for Troop 222. Brett is also very active in his home owners association, where he sits as executive board member.

Brett looks forward to supporting the Dam Community Alliance, Corps, and community members.

THERESA AKARD

Native to New York, Theresa moved  her two young daughters to Canyon Lake in 2003.  She then opened her insurance agency in Sattler a year later.  After years of hard work, Theresa invested in other businesses - River Sports Tubes and Goofy's Bar and Grill.  Her love for her community has led to not only business investments, but many different community efforts as well. As an owner of different businesses that thrive on not only local patrons but also Canyon Lake's thriving tourist season, Theresa understands the need for community involvement in order to keep Canyon lake and its surrounding area up to date and maintained so that it may be enjoyed by all for many more years.

Theresa and her husband Mike enjoy traveling when they can, throwing events at Goofy's and relaxing at home with Curly the cat.

JENNY RENDON

Jenny Rendon is a native Houstonian but has called Canyon Lake home for the last ten years.  She earned an Associate Degree in Nursing at Houston Community College in 2003 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Pennsylvania State University in 2009. Wanting to transition into the role of Advanced Practice Nurse, she went on to receive a Master’s of Science in Nursing at Vanderbilt University in 2014 where she studied to become an Adult and Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with an Intensivist subspecialty.  Later, in 2015 she received a Master’s of Science in Health Care Ethics from Creighton University’s College of Medicine.  In 2020, she graduated from Yale School of Nursing with a doctorate in nursing.  Currently Jenny is a visiting assistant professor at the University of the Incarnate Word.

As a health care provider, Jenny believes that the residents of Canyon Lake deserve a community with  resources that provide opportunities for the residents to achieve optimal health.  The lake, its dam, and its parks provide the residents of Canyon Lake with the best opportunities in the area for wellness activities and working to preserve these resources is her service to the community.

Carolyn Locke

Born and raised in Dallas, GA, a chance encounter in 2011 at the Canyon Lake Marina led Carolyn Hilderbrand to make the big move to Canyon Lake and take on a new role in the sales and marketing of live corporate events.  She quickly grew to love our community and appreciate the unrivaled beauty of our Texas Hill Country community.
After COVID 19 impacted the corporate events industry, Carolyn quickly decided to invest some of the newfound time on her hands to pursue a couple of her passions -- encouraging others to #GetOutside and promoting ways we can all work together to keep our community clean, beautiful and enjoyable for future generations.
A mother of 3 grown boys and a grandmother to Ellie Scout, Carolyn and her partner, Les Locke, share a home on the South Side of Canyon Lake.   Most days you can find them out on the boat, raising crazy chickens or relaxing with their Australian Shepard, Gus.

PAM SCHULT

Pam is a native Texan born in Houston but was an Army brat as a child traveling all over the world.

She and her husband Arlan bought property and moved to Canyon Lake in 1994 where they opened up Checkered Flag Automotive in 1996. She served as treasurer for the Canyon Lake chamber for six years. She also served as treasurer on the Comal County Crime Stoppers board for 13 years. She and Arlan have been members since 2005 of Comal County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy and numerous other volunteer positions throughout the county.

She is extremely dedicated to several ministries at Saint Thomas Catholic Church including Prison Ministry.

Two years ago they have found a new way to spend their time together when Canyon Lake Dancers formed a square dance club.

As a business owner and a resident she loves the Canyon Lake Community and everything that it has to offer to both it’s residents and the many tourists that pass through.

She has always referred to Canyon Lake as “God’s little corner of paradise!”
